Using cutting edge technology in the NHS

Today, the Medicines and Medical Devices Bill had its Second Reading in the House of Commons, as part of government plans to empower NHS workers and deliver the best outcomes for patients across the country.

  • The NHS must be Britain's number one priority, and the government is determined to ensure that everyone who uses it can access the most advanced treatments, as soon as possible.

  • The Medicines and Medical Devices Bill will give hospitals new powers to develop cutting-edge personalised treatments for patients with rare cancers and brain tumours. It will also empower a greater range of medical professionals to prescribe low-risk medicines to relieve pressure on GPs.

  • By slashing red tape, this bill will help improve treatments for patients and empower those NHS workers, who know what’s best for their patients, to deliver the best quality care.
